Movies, Movies, Movies!!

I never realized how many movies I have seen until I recently got a Blocbuster membership. I used to rent from Payless Video in Denton and I have never had a Blockbuster membership and now I know why- even old movies are like 4 bucks to rent, where at Payless, when it is no longer a new release it is only 99 cents.

Timeline=Timewasted

This weekend I rented Timeline, let me just tell you that timeline should have been called Timewaste. I am no Ebert and Roper, and so when I say a movie stinks, it has to really stink. With remote in hand, I had to fight the urge to fast forward through entire boring scenes. I am sure if I had read the book, which was written by the creative Michael Chriton, I would have loved every chapter, but not so the movie. Stale acting, tiring dialoge, and a flimsy story line kept these moving crawling and I was trying hard not to fall asleep.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

A huge fan of Rowling's Potter series I can't help but love the movies as well. They follow the books closely, they are colorful, well done, artistic masterpieces, but this Potter installment is unrememberable. It is a necessary bridge to the next movie, The Goblet of Fire, but of the first four books it is the least appetizing. While the movie is still two hours in length, I left feeling a little hungry.

In other weekend news...

I boxed up my cable modem and my digital cable receiver- I am going to take it back to Comcast and save the money. I was recently given about 30 books, and with this website and a new desire to go back to college, I will have little time to watch TV anyway.

While Eddy might be correct in several of his critiques of The Prisoner of Azkaban, I would vehemently disagree that is was "unrememberable". And while I will even agree that the book may indeed be a transition to The Goblet of Fire, "Azkaban" has a vast ammount of high points of its own. Who are you Eddy, if that's your real name, to label an Animagus (of any sort) or a werewolf "unrememberable"? Disgraceful.

I was even impressed with Christopher Lee filling in quite nicely as Dumbledore for the late Richard Harris. The teen angst that we really see developed and exposed in the fifth book was revealed a bit prematurely, imo, but the friendship between the three heros was shown as even more dynamic than ever.

I suppose a viewer like you, Eddy, needs more explosions and violence as well as that over-hyped Witch Olympics that, i'm sure, you can't wait for in The Goblet. I, however, will be satisfied with good plot, dialogue, and character development.

Shermtank (That's catchy)- so nice of you to drop a line, I am finding it hard to type as my fingers were recently crushed by your bulldozing of my short review. You brought up some very valid points, but as I look back, I find that I can remember so much more from the first two movies, or perhaps I only think I do because there were more explosions and giant spiders, and flying cars... I have to admit, my favorite part from this installment was when Aunt Petunia swelled up like a hot air balloon and floated out of the house- that scene was brilliant.

And Sherman as I recall you were always easily pleased, I think that comes from your youth, but your writing is quite intelligent, and shows promise, perhaps you should become a movie critic yourself and start your own website?

Always good to hear from you...

You just now got a blockbuster membership?? hmmmm....
You know, I hate to post a comment to your site, you and your fellow bloggers are such eloquent writers...it's kind of embarrasing (for me). Don't you have a lower class blog that I could post to? Anyways - just tlaking about movies....know what I think was like soooo great???? "Bringing Down the House" I laughed my butt off, bought it, watched it, laughed a whole lot more, and watched it again!
