Why do they call it a Slumber Party?

Growing up I used to love having slumber parties. You get all your friends together and you play lots of games - for guys I know we liked to play capture the flag and then when it got really late we would play Super Mario Brothers or Metroid for hours on end. We would normally ingest about 5,000 calories worth of Oreos, chips, twizzlers, and Dr. Pepper and there was no way we wanted to go to sleep when we were told. How many times did Dad have to come in and tell us to "be quiet" or "Enough guys, it's time to go to sleep". We would laugh and giggle and tell ghost stories. Some of the older guys would talk about girls and whether or not they had ever kissed one and then we would finally fall asleep.

This past weekend we had a slumber party over at Jessica's parents house. We grilled burgers, swam in the pool, and played games till 3:00 in the morning. One of the highlights of the night was when Jessica found this little inch worm poking it's head out of a raspberry on her plate. KT made the fruit salad and I told her that I didn't like fruit salad and so she put them on the side - thank God. Jessica was eating and then all of the sudden she just stopped and the little worm was sticking straight up like and wiggling like a cobra listening to flute music. All of the sudden Jes apparently got the willies because she let out a shriek that would have awoken Elvis in Graceland if he is indeed dead.

Of course the guys laughed and then Roger, Jessica's husband, picked up the raspberry and ate it - WITH THE WORM STILL IN IT. Now I have been known to do some gross things but I don't eat worms. Suddenly I think Roger would be a great candidate for Fear Factor.

We all got a good laugh out of the worm story and I kept eating my fruit salad - because I don't eat raspberries and mine wasn't going to be tainted with anything that was alive.

The slumber party was fun even though I really didn't do any slumbering. On the contrary, the sand man apparently was busy that night because he didn't stop by at all for me despite my silent pleas.

When morning finally came I was reminded of the fact that I am 29 and that is why I don't do slumber parties any more - because when you are old not sleeping is not a good thing. I still had a blast being a kid for one night. Staying up late, eating cookies and milk, playing games with good friends is something that I recommend to everyone.

I hope all of you had a great weekend - much love.

Oh Eddo I loved this post. Sounds fun, despite the lack of sleep. Now I'm all nostalgic.

Great Post Eddo! Made me reminisce about my old slumber partys! A bunch of teenage girls, movies, pizza, dress-up, boy talk lol...but now that I'm 'old' and lovin it...I prefer a nice dinner a few games or a movie and then a good nights sleep.

haha, whatEVER, eddie. roger ate the raspberry AFTER letting the worm crawl onto his finger. then he put the worn down the sink drain, because that is what you do to ALL inchworms.

i still can't believe that he ate that raspberry, though.

Sounds like fun. AB was planning her first slumber party this morning (her seventh birthday is not until September, but hey, planning ahead is good, right).

Jes, do you eat figs, by chance?

EM, I LOVE figs. But one must be careful sometimes.

Jes, I'm jealous that you have a "local whole foods store" I must drive 45 min. to the nearest one. sigh.

Steve, Steve now you went and made it dirty. We did have separate sleeping quarters for the single boys and girls.

Eddie, I noticed that you accidently neglected an important fact which I'm sure was not intentional.

The girls KICKED BUTT on Cranium. And by KICK BUTT I mean we won both games we played and it was TWO girls against THREE boys.

When it comes to Cranium or Taboo the ladies always kick butt - I always try to get on the team with the most girls - or if KT is there I always try to get on KT's team.

Incidentally I had a dream last night with KT in it - she was driving - almost wrecked, and in the process of keeping me from flying through the window she slammed her forearm into my face.

I was like, um... thanks KT. And she was upset because I wasn't more appreciative of the fact that she had just saved me and my face from the windshield - despite the fact that I was wearing my seatbelt.

Eddie I soooo do the forearm protector bit. I actually have smacked my sister in the face before when braking suddenly. I guess that is a natural female/mother instinct in me.

OMW I also dreamed I was in an accident yesterday. I somehow got sideswiped and rolled my car and I could actually feel myself being pulled against the seatbelt and getting knocked unconscious. I must be reliving the bus accident from a few years ago.

Weird about the duo dreams, hope it isn't prophetic.

OK - my roomie and I pulled and all nighter for our 'last night' as roomies (she got married last weekend). I hear ya on the 'too old not to get sleep' but it was fun and memorable :)
