My Neck, My Back! My Neck AND My Back!

And on the 900,456,600 day, God created Eddo. Unfortunately, Eddo decided to bulk up to a sizeable 330 pounds. He played Ultimate Frisbee and twisted his ankles - repeatedly. He pulled his hamstring while skiing and decided to keep running his daily run despite his injury. A shoulder dislocation in high school and a couple of head contusions later and Eddo wonders why in the world his body hurts from head to toe after playing 1 hour of basketball.

At the spry age of 29 Eddo has noticed that his knees hurt during the night after doing 2 hour dance rehearsals. After trying to squat 405 pounds he found that his back and neck hurt, and after multiple workouts with heavy weights he has started to feel pain and tingling in his elbow, shoulder, and wrist regions.

Chondroitin, Glucosamine, Fish Oil, and MSM have been added to his diet regime. Upon trying Knox Gelatin joint supplement he almost projectile vomited, however, he figures - no pain, no gain, so he continues to force himself to choke down the Knox.

He has considered taking shark cartilage and Nutrijoint, but he is not certain if it is possible to overdose on gelatinous medicines - does anyone else know?

For real ya'll, if you know anything about joint pain medicines and you have tried some that work, please pass along that knowledge to me. I workout hard, but I really don't think I should be in this much pain. There is good pain, and there is bad pain - I'd prefer to have none of the latter.

Side Hugs for the ladies, Knuckles for the fellas.

Word.

I have some samples of joint pain cream I can give you. If it works, I'll hook you up. Remind me if I forget.

Side hugs for my friend.

Side hugs! Ha!

Roger and I both take Glucosamine. They generally take about 3-6 months to begin building up the cartilege in your joints, so you may not notice an immediate difference.

Also, roger takes cod liver oil. i tried for a while, but it made me sick. i don't remember what it does, but i think it's something about preventing cancer.

enjoy the knox! :)

First off, you're not on meds-- you're on supplements. Second, if you want to go the homeopathic route (that's the one you're on), you're doing everything right BUT, I wouldn't put MULTIPLE remedies in your body at once! Or even in the same 10 day spread. Give your body at least 10 days to shake off the previously applied herbs. Seriously.
And when you take a remedy, how long are you giving it before decinding it doesn't work? I mean, in all honesty, these things are all LEGAL because even an idiot can't get TOO hurt by doing them improperly. They won't put anything on the market that is too dangerous for stupid people (remember ephedra? Ever heard of clenbuterol and t-3?) Simply put-- it takes a while for your body to adjust and become productive under the influence of whatever new drug it is you're taking. In addition, lay off the heavy lifting until you build up your joint strength, unless you're beyond repair.
Do you have any inflammation? ry a low dose of prednisone (or another steroid)... inflammation can also cause too much stress on the joint, therein inflicting permanent damage and wearing of the cartilidge.
My honest opinion, chondroitin, fish oil (high in V-E) and glucosamine for balane will help the most. For the pain, take slippery elm root tabs-- it's fairly natural, and will ease your pain without making you tired or loopy.
My mind's an open book--- questions?

My orthopedist says: "Learn to live with it." You work your bod, abuse it even, and after a while, it stops bouncing back. Of course, I have 12 years and two pregnancies on you. I've tried the glucosamine--can't tell if it makes much of a difference, but it's worth trying.

Eddo, I agree with Jes- these supplements take a while to really start to work. So unfortunately there isn't a quick fix for this. No doubt that you work out hard, and I suggest allowing plenty of time to rest, especially after these workouts (and dance routines, lol) Maybe a hot bath or some of those creams. Good luck and hope your back on your feet again soon!

By the way Eddo, I have the luxury of working with Neurosurgeons (brain and spine docs) and if I have learned ONE THING it is that you should NOT go see a chiropractor for your neck/back!!! They say a lot of times it can cause injuries, even though they are accidental. So be careful!!!

I don't work out. I just stop eating. It avoids all the pain.

I don't know much about workout things. But a nice hot bubble bath might make you feel better even if just temporary. Imagine: A tub full of steamy water and bubbles, flickering candles surrounding you, soothing music playing. :)

well, you have some great advice here..good thing, because the only thing I have to add was I was given an excellent medicine that helped my shoulder pain right away, and it never came back. Unfortunately it was Vioxx.

GLucosamine, condroiton and MSM are all good for the knees - my particular problem - but you can talk to a pharmacist and they will help ya out.
