Preconceived notions

I faithfully read a blog called My Life as a...Gas Station Attendant.

When I first began reading this blog I had the average stereotypical image of someone who spends their life pumping gas. Chances are his education level is low, goals and ambitions are non existant or it is a younger person using this position as a first job.

My second husband was happy pumping gas and he fit into my stereotypical mold. He was not pumping gas at the time we met, however, it did not take him long to return to his roots. Unfortunately at the time I did not think far enough in advance to consider his educational level meeting mine and the limitations that created. But.....I digress.

The person who writes this blog blows all of those stereotypical images out of the water. He is articulate, educated, sarcastic, and has a good grasp of human nature. Give his blog a shot. They tend to be on the long winded side, but usually well worth reading.

Tagged......aaaggghhhh

I've been tagged and you've been warned....my life is boring.

Here goes:

10 years ago today: I had just moved to the valley to go back to school and actually earn a degree in something. I ended up meeting husband #2 instead and everything went to the back burner.

5 years ago today: I was working in the valley in a law office and going to school to complete my Paralegal Degree. Again, I didn't finish....diversions from the home front.

1 year ago today: I was here in wonderful Pendleton Oregon working at the same job I have today.

Tomorrow: I will continue to pack my house up to move on to my latest adventure.

5 snacks I enjoy: Yogurt (Yoplait whips), Cheese It crackers, popcorn, apples, carrots.

5 things I would do with $100,000,000: Buy my mother her own home, make sure my siblings were comfortable, buy my daughter her own home, buy my son his own home, travel!

5 Locations I Would Like To Run Away To: Hawaiian Islands, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Spain, Italy.

5 Bad Habits I Have: Procrastinating, Laziness (sometimes!), watching too much television, too empathetic to others, poor money management.

Things I Like Doing: Travel, writing and reading, surfing the net, gardening, playing tennis.

5 Things I Would Never Wear: Spandex, tight pants, loud patterns, see through items (except where appropriate *wink*), leather.

5 TV Shows I Like: CSI, Law and Order, House, Friends, Nanny 911

5 Movies I Like: Always, Kate and Leopold, Erin Brokovich, anything with Kevin Costern/Mel Gibson/Harrison Ford. (I like the rugged handsome men)

5 Famous People I'd Like To Meet: Harrison Ford, Oprah Winfrey, Montel Williams, Sylvia Browne, Julia Roberts.

5 People to Tag: I won't name anyone, if you feel like sharing, please do so.

Odds & Ends

I don't mind moving, but the actual packing is a royal pain. I definetly see the plus in having someone else come in and pack up your stuff.

Sunday I actually accomplished quite a bit. Got both the girls bedrooms packed up, the living room packed up and most of the kitchen. (What I don't need to survive). It's hardest when you get down to all of the odds and ends. I'm bad about finding a proper place for everything. If something will fit in a box but doesn't "go" with everything else, I find a different box. Well, I'm finally getting to the place where I'm packing and just labeling the box "odds and ends" cause there just isn't enough "like" stuff to go in the same box. I'm sad...I know...LOL

I have sooooo much stuff that has to hauled off to the dump. Will have to find a friend with a pick-up to make three or four dump runs for me. Just have to pay their gas Ouch!

Things are finally coming together, and the closer it gets the more excited I get!

Enough boring details of the move.....but that's about all I got. Have a great day everyone.

I'm Baaaacccckkkkkk

Hi all,

This will be short as I'm buried with work..more on that later.

Gave my notice at work and to the landlord on the 23rd.....no going back now!!

Had a yard sale on Saturday and got rid of all the JUNK that I did not want to move...YEAH!!

My daughter and granddaughter move to the valley this weekend. I have two to three weeks to finish packing and get stuff moved to storage and get out of the house. My goal is to leave October 1 for Alaska. Pushing it on the weather, and of course the gas prices had to go skyhigh...but whatcha' gonna do??

Hope you are all well and will try and write more tomorrow.

Apartment Hunting

I went online yesterday to Alaska's major Newspaper Anchorage Daily News and started looking for apartments. I think I've found where I'd like to live. It will be close to work, has a wonderful view and will be affordable.

I'm fortunate in that K is willing to help me look and knows the area so well, he can tell me where to stay away from and where is a good location.

Have I mentioned I love men in uniform and this place is right next door to the Air Force Base? :-)

Credit Where Credit is Due

I hope you all have noticed my new blog look. I'd like to thank Eddie Renz from Posted Note for this wonderful, bright, new look. He is very talented and I highly recommend him if you would like a new updated look.

I've been hashing numbers today. Attempting to get the details done for the move late September, or first of October. I'm soooo stressed!!

Anyway, I'm excited, stressed, and it still does not feel real to me. I've started packing at home. Let me tell you how much fun that is! NOT! You never realize how much stuff you have until you have to move it.

One of these days I'm going to find a place to settle down in permanently. Or...maybe not..LOL

I'll just have to keep my belongings to the bare minimum. Easier that way.

Eddie...thanks again!!

The Purple Lady

She walked around town with her plastic shopping bags and no matter the season, even in the middle of a scorching summer, she wore her ever present grey coat.

She was a black woman who had wondered this town since the mid 80's. Her car broke down in this backwater western town and here she remained.

Several rumours floated around town regarding this poor creature. She was a professors wife and when he died she lost her mind, left her home in the east, and wandered the country until she ended up here; She was one of the many they released from the State Mental Hospital when they closed it down and turned it into the prison. Whatever her story was, she became a regular fixture in this town.

I'm not sure why, whether it was makup or a medical condition, but her face always had a purple hue to it. The children would look at her and point fingers and the younger ones would call her monster. She would speak to the townspeople when spoken to, however, more often than not would stay to herself.

She would wander around town picking up cigarette butts from the ground and outside receptacles, pick up cans and bottles for the .05 cent deposit, and sit here and there as her body needed the rest.

It was a month or so ago that I saw her obituary in the newspaper. She was fondly remembered and buried with dignity. May her restless soul now be at peace.
